The Building Process - Frame Erection - continued

Smaller frames are installed

Smaller frames are installed next to the last wider frames. The smaller frames are attached to the back of the larger frames on either side.

Garage frames being bolted to the garage header

The last garage frame is installed and attached to the top of the garage header which allows for garage doors that are wider than the frame spacing.

Garage header

Close-up of the garage I-beam header installed between the outside garage frames to allow for the garage door openings. The header allows shortened columns to sit on top instead of going all the way to the foundation. Headers are used when an opening for a door or window falls where a column would normally be located.

Frames with roof purlins installed

All the frames are erected and the roof purlins have been installed. The workers at the back corner are just starting to install the roof sheathing. Note that the cross braces and lateral braces will be left in place until the roof has been sheathed.

The photos shown depict various construction techniques used by contractors and owners during actual construction of Excalibur homes. These photos are for illustration purposes only as the actual construction techniques required may vary with the design of the home and local design conditions.
